Whilst here, a visit to the atmospheric Cappuccini convent, where the catholic monk Padre Pio received the gift of stigmata, is a must. C. Under the reign of Federico II, San Giovanni was fortified and gifted with a castle, but, despite the defence erected, San Giovanni Rotondo was unable to defend itself against the attacks and raids by the Angioini and the Aragonesi. There are still some visible remains of this village, such as tombstones and an antique circular baptistery. San Caterina’s church - once Santa Maria Maggiore church, this is the most antique church in the village, and can be found in the University of San Giovanni Rotondo. Protected by the highest summit of Gargano; Monte Calvo (1056 metres), San Giovanni was founded immediately after the year 1000 by refugees of surrounding villages, on the ruins of a pre-existing village dating as far back as the 4th century B. Other attractions include: San Giuseppe Artignano’s church - opened at Padre Pio’s request on 11 September 1965. .

From the south:
- Take the Foggia exit of the A14 motorway, and follow the S.S. 89 towards Manfredonia.
- Exit at San Giovanni Rotondo.

From the west:
- Take the Candela exit of the A16 motorway, and follow the S.S. 655 towards Gargano.
- Join the S.S. 89 towards Manfredonia and exit at San Giovanni Rotondo.

By Train:
From the Foggia railway station:
- Take the SITA bus to San Gionanni Rotondo, or call the hotel for the shuttle service available upon request.

By Plane:
