One of the Clay hotel’s most notorious claims to fame (and there are quite a few) is the presence here of the infamous gangster Al Capone in the early 1930s. It is said he ran his gambling ring from here. Al Capone was known to be a dangerous, violent gang lord, but he and his circle were so slick that he could never be charged with any of his crimes.
The most famous piece of filming to feature the Clay The Clay Hotel were episodes of the 1980s police show, Miami Vice. The Clay’s unique backdrop was used in both the pilot episode and the final episode of the first season, and, overnight from the first showing, the Clay The Clay Hotel became instantly recognized and hugely popular as a place to stay in Miami.

From the Greyhound station at Bayside Market - take the C bus to 15th St. and Washington Ave.
From Amtrak - take the L bus to Lincoln Rd. and walk 3 blocks south along Washington Ave.
