The Hostal Loreto is in the centre of the old city, close to many good restaurants and shops. It is rumoured that there is a secret tunnel to the castle on the hill top behind the hotel. The Hostal Loreto was formerly a nunnery and was built by the Marquis del Campo about 450 years ago. It is 800 metres from the beach.
Hotel information
Although classified under strict Spanish legislation as a Hostal we offer all of the facilities of a hotel, with the exception of a lift. Due to the historic nature of the building it would be very difficult to meet the current requirement that a Hostal Loreto must have a lift if there are more than two floors of accommodation.
In an ongoing process of improvements, safety deposit boxes will be installed in more rooms this year. Spanish television will also be installed in a number of rooms, with satellite television coming next year. At present there is a communal television/recreation room.
There are many activities such as Ti-chi, Yoga and line-dancing in the Hostal Loreto and guests are welcome to participate in them if they wish.
Room information
The Hostal Loreto has 43 recently refurbished bedrooms, including 5 triples, 23 doubles and 15 singles. There are 12 adjoining rooms with interconnecting doors, which can be configured as family suites.
All rooms have en suite bathrooms with showers or baths.
All rooms have air conditioning, hairdryers, safety deposit boxes and ceiling fans.
Food & beverage
The Hostal Loreto houses a popular restaurant which fronts onto a street terrace in a pedestrian area. There is also a pleasantly cool 14th century patio where guests may dine or have breakfast.
In the evenings the restaurant operates an à la carte menu which changes every 3 months with the seasons.
At lunchtimes the restaurant offers a 3-course 'menu of the day' including a glass of wine.
Hostal Loreto guests have the option of prepaid full or half board arrangements which offer a substantial discount to the normal restaurant prices.
The bar and restaurant are open all day from 08:00, serving drinks and snacks, including a wide range of coffees and ice creams.
Area information
There are activities to suit everyone in and around Denia, including golf, sailing, scuba diving, kite boarding and windsurfing, jet skiing, mountain biking, horse riding and climbing. Many people come however just to enjoy the 20 kilometres of beautiful beaches!
Denia is steeped in history going back to Grecian times and beyond. The castle was built by the Moors during their 700 year occupation of the area and is built on the site of Roman ruins. The annual celebration of "Moors & Christians" re-enacts the driving out of the Moors by the Christians in 1492 and takes place in the first two weeks of August every year.
There are many other fiestas and celebrations in Denia all of which involve copious quantities of music, processions and fire-works. They are fascinating both to see and to take part in. In March the "Fallas" (burning of effigies to symbolise the start of Spring), in April the Easter parades, in July "Bous del mar" (Bulls in the sea), in August "Moors and Christians", to name but a few. There are also many outdoor concerts and festivals such as the annual International Dance Festival which lasts for a week and takes place under the moonlight in the amphitheatre by the castle walls.
Denia is also well placed for short visits to Ibiza and the Balearic Islands. The Teramitaca and Tera Natura theme parks are only a short drive away as are many other attractions such as the Aqualandia waterpark, and the Mundomar sealife park. There is also a nature reserve just outside Denia as well as a Safari park. Short boat trips can be made from Denia to many other resorts along the coast.
Travel information
Denia is a one hour drive from the airports of Alicante and Valencia and one and a half hours from the airport at Murcia. The city has a bustling port housing the main ferry connections to Ibiza and the Balearic Islands. The is a pleasant 5 to 10 minute walk from the port. It is also 5 minutes from the central bus station and 5 to 10 minutes from the train station. Although Denia is not on the main railway network there is a small-gauge, very picturesque, "Limone Expres" to Alicante (which has a main line station). There is also a main line station in Gandia and a good bus service from Gandia to Denia.
